TPO vs. EPDM Roofing: Which Is Better for Texas Buildings?

TPO and EPDM are the two most common single-ply membranes on commercial buildings. Both are excellent — but they perform differently in the North Texas climate.

Energy efficiency

White TPO reflects sunlight and keeps buildings cooler. Standard black EPDM absorbs heat, though white EPDM and coatings are available.

Durability

EPDM's rubber flexibility handles hail and thermal movement very well. TPO's heat-welded seams are extremely strong and resist leaks.

Cost

Installed costs are similar and depend on thickness, attachment method and insulation.
